Dydd Gwyl Dewi at St Mellon’s

March 1st fell on a Sunday this year which we kept in Church as Lent 1.
St Mellon’s School celebrated Dewi Sant on March 2nd. In the morning the Vicar came in to conduct Assembly and regaled the school with all sorts of fascinating tales about Dewi, including St Non's Well. Apparently, if you jump into this well you can be cured of your ills. The Vicar reckoned that the water was so cold that he would certainly forget about his backache!

In the afternoon the school went down to the Village Hall to celebrate all that was good about Welsh culture. Lots of mums and dads came along as well as members of the local community and previous members of staff. The children sang all sorts of songs and performed a drama based on a Welsh painting of a coal mining valley. We even had a Chairing of the Bard.
