Celebrating our rich churchyard wildlife
Gwent’s Living Churchyard project seeks to highlight the fantastic wildlife and history of our churchyards.
As part of the project a ‘fantastic fungi day’ was held at St Sannans Church, Bedwellty. 15 people from across Gwent joined to learn more about this fascinating group, which included finding the bright orange tongue-like fungus, Cordyceps militaris, which feeds on buried caterpillars!
Through days like this the project hopes to provide the opportunity for local people to learn more about the wildlife and history to which their churchyard is home and hopefully join in helping record it, care for it and enjoy it!
