BIF! - Could you live without fossil fuels?
One of the results of the Mapping programme in the parish of Trellech and Penallt was that we realised we wanted to become better informed about the big questions of our time. So the Burning Issues Forum was created (BIF for short) where issues that concern and affect us all are discussed among friends, informally, over a simple meal.
Two BIFs have happened so far. The first addressed the question of human rights, with a speaker from Amnesty International who talked about refugees in general and failed asylum seekers in Newport in particular. Out of this has come our Harvest appeal for contributions to the food parcels on which they depend.
Then we looked at third world development, and examined whether a local link can make a difference, based on the experience of the five-year parish project to support a girls’ school in Nebbi, Uganda, which reaches its completion shortly.
Our third BIF is on October 24th at 7pm when we will think about whether we can live without fossil fuels, under the guidance of world-renowned environmentalist and author Herbert Girardet whose particular expertise is planning sustainable cities.
Do join us then at the Babington Centre in Trellech.
There is no charge, but a contribution of food or drink to the shared supper will be most welcome. You will be sure of a warm welcome and a stimulating evening.
