for Malpas Church Junior School, Newport
In its recent ESTYN and Church in Wales inspection, Malpas Church in Wales Junior School, was awarded the best possible results for excellence in education. The inspection assessed seven key areas and the school achieved a grade one in all seven.
The Inspectors described the school as ‘a good school with many outstanding features. Pupils achieve very high standards and the quality of teaching is excellent. The quality of care pupils receive is outstanding. The school is very well led and managed and there is an excellent Christian ethos. All pupils succeed, regardless of their background.’
The success of the school is rooted in its community culture. Head teacher, Richard Jones, was complimented on his clear leadership, with the inspectors reporting that ‘much of the high quality of the present school community is owed to the strategic vision of the Headteacher’.
Deputy Head teacher, Malcolm Rayner, also receives commendation as an effective practitioner who has a positive effect on the management of the school. The teachers, whose teaching is described as excellent, are also praised for the outstanding relationships that exist amongst all staff and pupils and the very good role models they provide for all pupils.
“The school has a special place in this suburb of Newport" said the Chair of Governors, Revd David Parfitt, "It is a Christian school where children love to come and enjoy learning. All children can achieve their God-given right to flourish here. It is a privilege to be a part of this school."
Canon Keith Denison, Director of Education for Monmouth Diocese, said, "The Diocese of Monmouth is delighted with this impressive report which recognises the commitment of all those involved in this excellent Church School."
