‘Baby’ Ben grows up
A class of 5 and 6 year old pupils from Trellech School visited St Nicholas church for the ‘baptism’ of ‘baby’ Ben. Some of them took on the role of parents and godparents as Vicar, Sandra Howells, talked to them about making promises and then baptised Ben.
A month later, Ben had grown up!
The children came back into the church and the Vicar reminded them of the promises made at Baptism and explained how, as they grow up, they will want to make the promises for themselves. Then there was a grand procession with ‘Bishop’, ‘Bishop’s Chaplain’, and ‘churchwardens’ before the ‘Bishop’ confirmed Ben and three others. All four were supported by ‘church sponsors’.
The school and church are forming close links. The Vicar takes a lunchtime bible club and some of the older children come into church for the weekly Welcome Club which has a monthly ‘YES’ style communion.
The Bishop visited the school during the week he spent in Monmouth deanery
