Bishop Childs School is 20!
Our school recently celebrated its 20th anniversary on 11th May.
We held an 'Eighties day' where all staff and children dressed up ‘Eighties Style.’ We held a special Anniversary Family Assembly in the morning and invited all our parents/carers and each class shared memories of the Eighties and the school.
Mrs Cheryl Evans, our Year 6 teacher, was one of the first teachers when the school opened in 1988. Mrs Dawn Price was the school’s first student teacher and is still teaching in Year 5.
Our school council wanted to create something which would be sustainable in the future and so we decided to set up an anniversary garden on our junior playing field where children could sit and play. Sara Lewis and Jack Johnson, Chair and Vice Chair of our School Council, opened the garden revealing a plaque to celebrate the 20th anniversary. The garden was opened by our children singing an Anniversary Song which they had created and then Welsh Country Dancers performed traditional dances for us.
During the day we had lots of visitors who had served in the school during the last twenty years in some way or another. All the classes had contributed photographs, drawings and favourite memories for the timecapsule which was buried next to a cherry tree in the school grounds. The day ended with a slice of anniversary cake and squash for all guests and pupils.
The picture is of our Year 1 pupils during the special Anniversary Family Assembly showing everyone an acrostic poem they had made up using the school’s name.
