Easter People:

Tredegar artist, John Dickinson, paints a picture

When the parish of Tredegar embarked on an artistic Advent, they didn’t realise it would end in an Easter picture. Vicar John Davis explains:

I ran an Art and Reflection course at St George’s Church, Tredegar, throughout Advent. The course focussed on four aspects of the Nativity Story: The Shepherds and the Angels, the Holy Family, the Journey of the Magi, and the Star. The course was open to anyone who had the courage to pick up a brush and have a go, and we had great fun as we experimented with pastels, acrylics, water colours and other media.

John Dickinson came along to the course and his input as an established local artist was greatly appreciated by those who attended. In addition to giving his time and enthusiasm on the evenings we met, John Dickinson also spent some time in his garage studio painting this Easter scene for our church.

The parishioners of St George would like to thank John for his enthusiasm and generosity in producing and donating this original artwork.

Artist, John, says of the painting: it depicts the suffering, crucifixion, death and resurrection to new life of Jesus. In this once-for-all act of sacrificial giving God gives hope to all who follow him. He has drawn us out of darkness in to light. He has offered his divinity to our humanity, that we might all be made pure in the Water of Life.
Thanks be to God
