Praise him in the dance

We are all used to praising God with our voices but seldom have the opportunity to use our bodies to express our joy in and love for God.

The ‘Dance as Worship’ Workshop held at St John the Evangelist, Newport, was a great success. There were ten of us for most of the six weeks and everyone seemed to enjoy combining exercise and worship. Our brains were taxed as well, trying to remember the steps and their sequence which, although simple and repetitive, were still a challenge.

It was good to meet new people from different churches and denominations. We made new contacts with other dance groups one of which is a circle dancing group which meets on the first Friday of the month at the annex of the Woodland Road Community Centre in Cwmbran at 8.00pm. (Anyone interested could just go along, or contact Mary Cook 01633 484154)

For our last meeting, we invited some guests to join us in an act of worship with dance as the central theme. It felt good to offer God our gift of praise through the medium of dance, lifting our hands in worship and rejoicing in movement. As the psalmist said: ”Praise ye the Lord…let them praise His name in the dance.” (149:3)
