The Archbishop of Wales Fund for Children
When, in October, 2001, the Children’s Society announced its decision to withdraw from all activity in Wales, The Archbishop of Wales Fund for Children was immediately set up to continue, as best possible, work with children and young people.
The Fund receives applications for support from projects all over Wales, and has so far awarded £289,000 to these. In its latest Newsletter, it lists twenty five projects, which have received grants ranging from £300 to £3,000 – a total of £40,248.94 – in 2007. They cover a wide diversity of activity: Family Centres, Play and Activities Clubs, children’s work in parishes, Scout Groups, and Church in Wales Primary Schools. All exist for the benefit of children, young people and their families, and are based in all the Welsh Dioceses – except the Diocese of Monmouth!
The reason for this is simple – no applications were received. Perhaps the help available from the Fund is not sufficiently well known within this Diocese. If you have a project or group which might qualify and benefit from an AWFC grant, then get an application form from:

Fill it in and return it. It will then be considered by the Trustees.
The Newport Committee supports the AWFC by co-ordinating fund-raising in the Newport area. The Committee puts on a series of activities each year and also acts as a channel for box monies, the proceeds of Christingles and, of course, donations from parishes and individual well-wishers.

The Committee would welcome new members from parishes not at present represented. The only qualification required is an abundance of enthusiasm, and willingness to work hard to promote fund-raising!
