ST.CATHERINE’S CHURCH, CROSSKEYS

photo of interior of churchAbout three years ago, church members and people from the local community formed a committee which they hoped would work to the advantage of both groups.

The church, which is part of the Parish of Risca, had a small congregation and it was also felt that the community needed a facility for weekly and occasional events. Grants were sought with the help of GAVO and the kitchens and toilets were refurbished. New stage curtains, windows, chairs and wooden floor followed, as well as a programme to eradicate woodworm. All this has totally transformed the church/hall which was always intended to be a dual purpose building with the church integrated into the hall space.

There have been a number of trips, Christmas tree lighting evenings, harvest suppers and the hall is used by various local groups for meetings: the Health Watch, Groundwork Caerphilly and a recently formed Community Partnership.

The garden has been managed by keen members of the committee, with the help of the Community Service and is a delight to the eye to all who pass by.

We hope that St Catherine’s will continue to grow and flourish within the community of Crosskeys.
