St Mary's children at Penllwyn
St Mary’s Church, part of Mynyddislwyn Rectorial Benefice, is in the middle of the Penllwyn Estate. As on most estates, the children can be seen playing around the streets and church building after school and at weekends. The church has built up a great relationship with these children. The non-stipendiary priest, Marion Barge, who lives on the estate, is regularly in the school taking assemblies and being part of the life there. For a couple of years now there have been monthly all-age services at St Mary's organised by Marian and the team vicar Ashley Hunt. The children who are normally outside the church come in to join with the worship.
Sian Pentecost, a member of the worship team says “I have seen the service develop and grow spiritually which has directly affected the local community, especially the children. It proves to be a worthwhile mission and benefit for the children, as they are welcomed and willingly take part in the worship for all ages in a practical and enjoyable way.”
Ashley and Marion ask if there are any keen musicians out there who would like to join the music group. More musicians would allow for more variation and flexibility in the worship. Contact Marion on 01495 227208
