Rejoicing at Lliswerry!

group photoCome back to Church! was the message, and the prayer was answered by God on Sunday morning, 7th October, when Lliswerry parishioners held their ‘Come back to Church’ Sunday at St Andrew’s, Somerton Road.

People came in numbers not seen there for some time and filled the small church to the brim. All ages turned up from elderly to infant, and from a wide range of walks of life, from Civic dignitaries to distant friends. The event was another step towards the goal of Mission for Lliswerry, a five-year plan drawn up by church members to bring growth in faith, worship and numbers in this area of East Newport in which the Parish lies.

The ‘Come Back’ service was a joyful and noisy affair with everyone taking part and catching the mood of celebration. Set pieces showed the wealth of things the church has to offer. The emphasis was upon attracting families and young children, but this does not rule out a welcome waiting for everyone and anyone who cares to turn up.

Church entertainer and evangelist Tony Bujega gave an illuminating PowerPoint presentation of brilliantly colourful slides and his message was clear: God loves you! and he is here waiting for you to come to him always and for ever.

Rainbows, Brownies and Guides processed through the Church and sang songs and offered prayers. A reading of the Parable of the Sower was given by Tom Smith, son of Lliswerry PCC Secretary, Peter Smith, and a host of exciting popular Harvest hymns were belted out by all.

The following day, the parish held its Harvest Supper in St Andrew’s Hall at which Revd Philip Musindi, vicar of Lliswerry, gave a slideshow of his holiday pictures. With his family he visited his home in Uganda last spring, during which his three children, Rebecca, Hannah and Matthew met their grandparents for the first time.
