Holocaust Memorial Day 27 January 2012
The County Borough of Torfaen was asked by The Welsh Government to be the responsible Authority for 2012, for a week of events, to mark international Holocaust Memorial Day. The climax of the week was a religious service hosted by St Gabriel's, Cwmbran. The Bishop preached at the service. [click here for sermon]
At a service in St Mary's, Priory, the people of Abergavenny with their Chair & Vice Chair of the County Council, AM & MP, remembered the victims of the Holocaust by lighting a candle for those slaughtered in genocide. Having remembered with the help of students and staff from Henry VIII School, those present pledged to ensure it would not happen again.

Bishop appoints Revd Lister Tonge to be Dean of Monmouth
Fr Lister will be installed in Newport Cathedral on Saturday 31st March at 2.30pm.
The Revd Linda Griffiths, curate in Risca, was ordained priest on 19 November. The local constabulary greeted her after the service.
On 15th October, the Diocese Celebrated its 90th Anniversary. Revd Roly Bain, Holy Clown joined the party.

For his sermon, the Bishop took the text "I am continually with you; you hold my right hand" (Psalm 73v21) and spoke of the role of hands in ministry. Other priests join the Bishop in ordaining a priest as a sign of their joint ministry.
Honorary Canons installed in Newport Cathedral

Revd Iain Doull (left), Vicar of Christ Church, and Revd John Heales (right), Vicar of the Penhow group of parishes, were installed as Honorary Canons in Newport Cathedral on 5th June. In his sermon, the Bishop paid tribute to the years of faithful ministry both have given in the diocese - some 65 years between them.
Bishop to Barista
At the start of Christian Aid Week, the Bishop served coffee in the Rainbow Coffee Shop in Chepstow. He said: Christians believe that the three great gifts given by God are faith, hope and love. Christian Aid has faith that through love in action it is able to bring hope to those who live in poverty. Christian Aid Week is a wonderful opportunity for Christians an people of good will to offer hope to those in greatest need. Please be generous.

Dean Richard Fenwick was consecrated as Bishop of St Helena in George, South Africa, on 7th May in a service which lasted over 3 hours and had a gloriously African feel to it. Over 900 people were present, including our own Bishop Dominic.
Here is Bishop Richard with his wife, Jane, and the crozier given to him by the people of the Diocese of Monmouth. Congratulations!
On 8th May, Bishop Dominic was president and preacher at the Eucharist at Benoni Cathedral and he admitted Mrs Daphne Alison as a member of the Order of St Woolos in recognition of her amazing work in fostering our diocesan link.
Irene Doull, Monmouth Diocesan World Mission Officer who has worked with Daphne to develop the companion link between the two dioceses was awarded the Bishop’s Medal by Bishop David Bannerman when he visited Monmouth Diocese last year.
The Chrism Mass
Deacon Heidi de Gruchy carries the oil for sick at the Chrism Mass in Newport Cathedral on Tuesday 19th April. At the service, priests and deacons renewed their ordination vows and the Bishop blessed the three oils used in sacramental ministry: the oil of the sick, the oil of baptism, and the oil of Chrism.

Leaders / Representatives from the 5 major world faiths, including the Bishop of Monmouth, joined the Chaplain Fr mark Soady at the Dedication of a Prayer Room on the day the University of Wales, Newport City campus opened.

Spend a penny on a Christmas gift of Safe Sanitation
Bishop Dominic was at the Welsh Assembly for the launch of a scheme to twin toilets across the globe. He said: now you can spend a penny and help flush out disease amongst th epoorest people in the world.
The Diocesan Office
has twinned a toilet with one in Burundi.
You can twin your church toilet for £60 and will receive a certificate, a picture and the GPS co-ordinates of your twinned loo.

Mrs Irene Doull, Diocesan World Mission Officer has become a member of the Order of St Woolos. The Bishop inaugurated her during the Order's annual service which will took place in Newport Cathedral on Sunday 9th January at 6.30pm.
