The Archbishop of Wales’ Fund for Children

Michaelmas 2008

The Newport Committee has had a successful summer of fund-raising, in spite of the awful summer weather.

A highly successful Murder Mystery Evening at Caerleon Endowed School, tied to a superb supper, raised over £700 for the Fund and after our Coffee Morning in May, we were able to pass more than £350 on to the Fund.

Our Gardeners’ Question Time evening in July, linked to John Skinner’s opening of his lovely garden at Magor, was again a great success, and the two events made a combined total of £475.

However, overshadowing all these events was the Tovey Family’s Sponsored Walk on a 19-mile stretch of the Cornish Coastal Path, in memory of Margaret, wife of Humphrey Tovey, organised by their children Catherine, James and John on the 20th July, which would have been her 70th birthday. This raised over £10,000, with donations still arriving.

Forthcoming Newport Committee Events:

Thursday, 9th October – Cheese and Wine at Bishopstow – Tickets £5
Wednesday, November 5th, Fashion Show and Sale at St Paul’s Church, Newport. High Street Brands at Bargain Prices!

Tickets for these events from Committee members, or Mrs Jackie George 01633 25162

The Committee would welcome new members from parishes not at present represented. The only qualification required is an abundance of enthusiasm, and willingness to work hard to promote fund-raising!
