Book Review:
GLORY DESCENDING: Michael Ramsey and His Writings.

Glory Descending is the first in a new series of "Canterbury Studies in Spiritual Theology" and is devoted to Michael Ramsey's writings. Edited by Douglas Dales, author of a previous book on Ramsey entitled Glory, this recently published volume is an admirable sequel and companion. Part 1 is "A Michael Ramsey Reader". The editor has skilfully collected classic extracts from all the published works of the former Archbishop that demonstrate the depth and breadth of his theological thinking. Extensive quotations are referenced and prefaced by introductory notes and the material is arranged to accompany the liturgical calendar. This assists devotional reading as well as providing a rich resource for preaching and teaching. Glory Descending allows a new generation to savour the distinctive qualities of Ramsey's spiritual theology and overhear his prophetic voice that recalls us to the values of holiness and firm faith.
The second part of the book consists of lectures and sermons delivered by distinguished episcopal theologians that celebrate the remarkable ministry of Michael Ramsey and his immeasurable contribution to 20th century Anglican theology. The lectures and sermons of Archbishop Rowan Williams identify central themes of his predecessor namely: "The Christian Priest," "Theology in the Face of Christ," and "True Glory".
This large paperback deserves and will reward careful study by all who wish to appreciate and value Anglican identity and integrity at its best. We can look forward with keen anticipation to future titles in this series.
