Bishop's Christmas Message 2006
Religion is rarely out of the news but few people know that the root of the word ‘religion’ is about being connected – that we should be connected with God and with one another as brothers and sisters. For Christians, this great ‘connection’ happened at Christmas with the birth of Jesus who came to connect us to God through his life and teachings, and through his death and resurrection. At its worst, of course (and all religions are made up of human beings), religion can divide and separate people and lead to bigotry, hypocricy and violence, but at its best religion can truly connect us to the God of love and inspire compassion, healing, love, forgiveness and great beauty to our world. Thank God for religion!
With all good wishes,
