Away From It All (AFIA) Holiday Scheme

PorthcawlMothers' Union AFIA holidays are a practical and important way to help support family life. Each year we
offer on average 25 families a holiday through the AFIA holiday scheme. The scheme is funded by our members and enables families to get away for a break in Porthcawl (a local seaside resort).

Prisons

Members volunteer at two prisons in the area. Cardiff prison runs a play area and is supported by our members.
Recently Parc prison, Bridgend, started a volunteer  programme. Members play with children and offer a hot drink and a listening ear to prisoners’ relatives.

Contact Centre

Members volunteer at two local child contact centres in Pontypridd and Merthyr.

Welcare Parenting Support Unit

The unit continues to provide women with young babies with an initial 12-week assessment of their parenting capacity.

Hafan

The aims of the project are to work with parents, to empower and enable them to gain in confidence and develop their parenting skills, to prepare for and move onto permanent independent living. This is fulfilled through the provision of nine, fully furnished, self-contained flats that offer accommodation to the lone parent with one child.
We support these wonderful projects by distributing gifts on Mothering Sunday to all the mums. Hafan are also  regular users of our caravan at Porthcawl.

Fair-Trade

fair tradeWe are a Fair Trade diocese and this means that only Fair Trade tea and coffee is served.
