Welcome to the Children & Homes Committee of the Diocese of Llandaff. We are a group of clergy and lay people who meet together to support and help to nurture Christian ministry to children, both in Church and at home.

WHAT ARE WE HERE FOR?

Children and Families

  • Support the running of Parent and Baby/Parent and Toddler groups and playgroups.
  • Provide a support programme which gives parents the opportunity to reflect on their role and access help in parenting.
  • Provide and support the use of 'take home sheets' or family packs for the development of faith in the home.
  • Provide support for families from both Church and non-Church backgrounds.
  • Support and provide development programmes for volunteers who work with parent and baby/toddler groups.
  • Christian development and Formation
  • Plan and implement training for those who work with children in the Church, promoting a deeper understanding of the learning needs of children today.
  • Help to ensure that children are provided with learning and faith development programmes appropriate to their age group

Children and Society

  • Develop relationships with social services and children's organisations.
  • Support parishes in child protection procedures.

Children and Church organisations

  • Ensure that children are central to the ministry of the Church.
  • Support the use of the Bible and promote Christian doctrine amongst children in the Diocese.
  • Provide resource materials for ministry to children in parishes and schools.
  • Provide input into clergy training on how the needs of children can best be served by the Church.
  • Research Church attendance by children in the Diocese.
  • Advise upon and encourage the development of a 'Child friendly Church'.
  • Support the development of Sunday Schools and weekday clubs.
  • Support parish schemes for mission to children.

Children and Worship

  • Support and encourage family and all-age worship.
  • Offer advice on the liturgical material and resources available.
  • Encourage good practice in family and all-age worship.
  • Offer advice, support and resources for parishes who wish to admit younger children to Holy Communion.

Church links with schools

  • Encourage and support Churches in the development of links with local schools.
  • Support schools by encouraging a wider experience of the Christian life.
  • Provide support for worship in schools.
  • Offer resources and support for schools in the development of the RE curriculum and collective worship.
