Board for social responsibility
The Board for Social Responsibility is primarily about people and the attempt at making a difference to people's lives through Faith in Action.
Making a difference means positively influencing the lives of people/individuals who may have a complex range of issues that are closely interlinked to their personal anxieties and perception of self worth.
Examples of our ministry include the following:
St Illtud's Day Nursery Llantwit Major
St Illtud's Day Nursery continues to offer a high quality child care facility. The waiting list continues to lengthen for both fee-paying and assisted places.
Assisted place referrals are made primarily through the Vale of Glamorgan Social Services and local Health Visitors.
Ty Rhondda, Llwynypia
Homelessness is one of the most dramatic forms of social exclusion, but it is very difficult to obtain accurate data with regard to the number of homeless young single people within the Rhondda.
Ty Rhondda provides four units of accommodation for the more vulnerable single homeless person aged between 16-25.
The tenant is encouraged and supported to develop his or her independent living skills and so gain in confidence. Help and support is given with budgeting, shopping, cooking and diet, employment and health issues.

Welcare Parenting Support Unit
The unit continues to provide women with young babies with an initial 12-week assessment of their parenting capacity.
Our intention at Welcare is at all times to promote positive parenting.
Welcare is staffed 24 hours a day - we never close!
Hafan Welcare
Hafan is a clear example of the collaboration between the voluntary and statutory sectors as commended by the Children Act 1989. The aims of the project are to work with parents, to empower and enable them to gain in confidence and develop their parenting skills, to prepare for and move onto permanent independent living. This is fulfilled through the provision of nine, fully furnished, self-contained flats that offer accommodation to the lone parent with one child.
The BSR is also involved with:
- the Vale of Glamorgan in its Children and Families Outreach Initiative
- training days developing the theme of spirituality within the context of social responsibility, such as those led by the Rt Revd David Sheppard, and the Revd Canon Sir John Polkinghorne
- race relations and interfaith issues through various other organisations in the Diocese
For a further details about the work of the Diocesan BSR contact Canon Gareth Foster.
We welcome the opportunity to address PCCs, Mothers' Union or any other parish group on the role and involvement of the Board for Social Responsibility. For further information about any of these projects, please contact the Revd Gareth Foster, 01656 868868
