Mission
The function of the Diocesan world mission group is to encourage parishioners to see themselves as being Christians who belong to the world-wide Church so that we might engage with overseas mission in a way which advances and challenges our own faith. We work alongside all Christians in the hope of seeing peoples of the whole world declare that Jesus is Lord.
People can easily shape their Christian identity just from their own locality, where "I go to St. Mary's" defines everything there is to know about our faith. Seeing ourselves as being rooted in our own community like this says something positive about our commitment to the place where we live, yet we are increasingly aware that we belong to a global network of people and not just our own surroundings. Advances in computer technology, up-to-the minute news, holidays abroad, international trade - lots of recent developments remind us that we can all affect people the other side of the world.
We want to make people aware both of resources which are available and initiatives which can be used to strengthen our calling to extend God's kingdom in other countries. At the same time, we can be informed and supported by the church overseas.
