SHIRLEY takes the plunge
l
There may be fur round her hat and her Bikini top, but it didn't do much to keep Shirley Duxberry warm on Boxing Day. Not for her the relative comfort of a wet-suit as she plunged into the near-freezing sea off Tenby - and all in aid of church funds.
The church in question - St David's, Llanddewi Velfrey - is said to have been founded by St David himself. The present building, though, much of it mediaeval, is in need of a little TLC - to the tune of around £90,000.
TLC was certainly what Shirley required when she emerged from her brave ordeal. And it was on hand from fellow parishioners, in the form of hot soup.
When she could speak again, she said: 'Believe me the water was freezing ....but it was worth doing.'
Certainly was. The venture raised £300 for St David's church.
That's about £1 for every goose pimple.
