Our Vocations Strategy
We hope that the Church in Wales’ current focus on vocations will encourage the start (or the re-igniting) of conversations about how we respond to God’s call.
If you, or someone you know, is considering whether you (or they) are called to ordained ministry in the Church, there are three things to do:
- Talk with God about this – pray that God will speak to you in a way that you can understand and make space to listen to what God is telling you.
You can use your own words, or prayers others have written to speak to God. Then make time where you have no other purpose than to seek to hear what God is saying to you. This may be in very short chunks, perhaps ten or fifteen minutes at a time. What is most important is that you find time when this is all that you do – that you make this conversation a priority.
- Talk with people who know you well: Friends and family with whom we are close can give help and insight into our gifts and aptitude and can challenge and encourage us to think more carefully about all kinds of issues about how our faith and our lives mesh together. Even if your ‘nearest and dearest’ are not Christians these conversations can help you to test and explore how God might be drawing you towards Christian ministry and whether this is something you want to pursue.
- Talk with representatives of your local church. Clergy at your parish church or chaplaincy should be able to help you to find out more about the realities and possibilities of ministry in the Church in Wales.

Each diocese has a Warden of Ordinands whose role in the Church is to guide those with a calling through the vocations process. A list of people in this role can be found on the left. There are all kinds of opportunities and pathways that are available to help you learn more about your calling and to deepen your faith.
