Selection for Ordination in the diocese of Bangor

  1. The Candidate speaks to his or her incumbent about the possibility of ordination.
  2. The Incumbent contacts the Warden of Ordinands with a recommendation that the candidate should be interviewed.
  3. The Candidate is interviewed by the Warden of Ordinands who recommends;
    • that the candidate should proceed to be interviewed by the Bishop
      or most probably
    • that the candidate should see a Vocations Adviser.
  4. The vocations adviser spends some time with the candidate exploring vocation - in the Church and in the world as well as to specific accredited ministries.
  5. If the vocations adviser feels that the candidate should explore the possibility of ordination further, the candidate is then interviewed once again by the Warden of Ordinands, and then by the Bishop.

Or the Warden will see a candidate in order to encourage him or her to explore other vocations and formally end the selection process for ordination.

Throughout this time the candidate is being seen regularly by their incumbent for pastoral support and further guidance regarding vocation.
  6. The Bishop interviews the candidate and then decides:
    • that the candidate should be seen by the Diocesan Selection Panel. The candidate completes the application forms and undergoes a medical check with the diocesan medical advisor, and if an NSM candidate, the candidate's PCC discusses his or her desirability as a candidate for ordination and meet to discuss and pass a resolution of support before the candidate can be interviewed.
    • that the candidate should explore other vocations.
    • If the candidate or his/her spouse is divorced and re-married they begin the process of being seen by the panel for divorce, remarriage and ordination, having received the forms from the Bishop.
  7. The candidate is interviewed by the Diocesan Selection panel, which recommends that:
    • the candidate should not proceed to the next stage of exploring ordination,
      or
    • that the candidate should proceed to the Provincial Selection Conference (PSC) but only after a certain amount of time for preparation. The candidate then sees a vocations adviser or another appointed person regularly to discuss issues that were raised at the diocesan selection panel,
      or
    • that the candidate should proceed to the next available PSC.
  8. The candidate attends a PSC.
  9. The Bishop informs the candidate of his decision, based on the recommendation of the PSC.
  10. The candidate is seen by the Warden of Ordinands to discuss training, or to continue exploring other vocations if not recommended for training for ordination.
