Nestling in the foothills of Cader Idris near to Castell y Bere (ruin) the village was the birthplace of Mary Jones, the daughter of a poor weaver who, as a young girl in 1802, walked 25 miles barefooted over the mountain tracks to Bala in order to obtain a Welsh Bible. This impressed the minister, Thomas Charles, so much that he gave her his own Bible. Her story led to the formation of the 'British and Foreign Bible Society' in 1804. She was brought up at 'Tyn-y-ddôl' cottage (now in ruins) about half a mile beyond the church.
The church vestry displays details of her life and a monument stands in the village.
Also in the Vestry is a relief map (made in patchwork by a group of local ladies) of the Dysynni Valley.
