St. Mary's closed in 1987 and fell into disrepair and became neglected with the congregation moving to St Ann's 1.5 miles away. St Ann's, built in 1865, was later sold. The determined congregation started a restoration programme and in 1998 they returned to worship in St. Mary's once again.
