Items of Interest

A church has stood on this site since the 14th century. The present church, designed by the then Bangor Diocesan Architect Henry Kennedy, dates from 1862. In 1890, thanks to many generous donations made by local land-owning families, a considerable amount of restoration work was undertaken on the interior of the building.

The stained glass windows are of interest - the central panel of the east window represents the Sermon on the Mount and the west window portrays St. Peter and St. Paul.

Fixed to the wall on either side of the south transept window are the Ten Commandments and the Creed in Welsh, both having previously been displayed in the local school. The many monuments on the walls commemorate former landowners and rectors but fixed to the wall opposite the door is an ancient tombstone which originally covered the grave of the local poet and weaver Owen Gruffydd (1643-1730).

The oldest dated tombstone in the churchyard bears the simple inscription: 'G M Died Feb The 26 1684.'
