Shipwreck graves
Dedicated to St. Maelog, a Celtic saint who settled here about 1450 years ago. There have been many churches on this ancient site, which is recorded in the 'Norwich Taxation' documents of the 12th century. The present one is of Henry Kennedy design, built in 1848. During the early part of 2001 the church underwent extensive reordering to serve the 21st century, but it retains its character and best features. Designed by architect Adam Voelcker, the interior incorporates works of art by local artists in wood and glass, and a stained glass window designed by art student Tiffany Tate, a previous member of the church choir. A 12th century stone font is housed in fine 21st century woodwork, with matching altar and lectern in a 'Tree of Life design.' Glass panels, on the same theme, have been designed and etched by Bill Swann. There is also a fine St. Cecilia window, possibly by Burne Jones.
