Probably of very early origin as a 6th century stone with Latin inscriptions was found in the churchyard in 1746. The benefice was first recorded in 1250. Having seen some restoration in 1687 the church was remodelled in 1854 and a tower planned but never built. It was to have iron bars as a cheaper substitute for bells. The gabled bell-cote contains one bell dated 1734.
Erected in 1790, a chest tomb stands between the porch and the south wall of the nave, it is known as 'Carreg Offrwm' and was used for the ancient custom of the payment of funeral offerings.
