Items of Interest

Fine stained glass throughout - note the Green Man in the east window. Burial place of Lleucu Llwyd (1360 - 1390).

The church is an exquisite example of a Victorian restoration (1873). Dedicated originally to St. Tanwg and St. Eithras, it is the only St. Peter ad Vincula (in bonds) in Wales. Many of the roof timbers have been dated to the early 16th century. The church was Prince Owain Glyndwr's last Chapel Royal (1406) and also the site of his last parliament, a House of Lords, that produced the Pennal Letter, one of the most important documents in Welsh history.

The oval churchyard is being developed as a Heritage Garden. A series of paintings in the old schoolroom celebrate the history of Pennal over 2,000 years.
