This is a fine country church set on raised ground and is approached through a lych-gate surrounded by many yew trees.
It is an early 15th century church being enlarged in the 17th century with a north transept and a timber framed bell tower with a pyramidal roof. The latter houses three bells, one of which is dated 1665. It retains some fabric from the mediaeval period. Careful restoration was undertaken during the 19th century - the pulpit having been constructed with 17th century carved panels and some fragments of the cresting from the former mediaeval rood screen.
In the oval churchyard, near to the corner of the vestry, is a monolithic stone sundial which carries a brass plate dated 1754. It is unusual in that it bears the latitude for which it is set. Also in the churchyard is the tomb of William Williams (Gwilym Cyfeiliog, 1801-1876) the engineer and hymnist of Bontdolgadfan.
