The present church dates back to the 15th century but was mostly rebuilt and restored in 1862.

It has an unique rood screen and loft but much of the screen's original tracery and the central gates are missing - probably removed in 1863 during major restoration work. The window on the north side has fragments of 15th century glass.

A new font is at the back of the church but the old one (uncarved, eight sided and standing on a square base) can be found below the bell tower. The bell tower houses three bells. The single manual organ was built in memory of a vicar of the parish. The chalice and paten are dated 1707.

In the churchyard, close to the church, is the grave of the well known Welsh poet John Ceiriog Hughes (1832-87).
