Carved reredos of Last Supper. Windows by Christopher Whall. Woodwork by Robert Thompson.

Built at the instigation of William Ewart Gladstone in 1806 and designed by the eminent Victorian architect Alfred Waterhouse in a 13th century style. It is listed as being one of the best of Waterhouse churches. A remarkable building that retains almost all of Waterhouse's original fittings and interior decoration. Unusual free standing tower. The foundation stone was laid in August 1867 by Mrs W. E. Gladstone, wife of the famous Prime Minister. The tower was added in 1885. It is now a Grade II listed building. It is robust, boldly detailed and made of rock faced local granite. The reredos is a fine wooden carving of the Last Supper, based on a painting by Gembalt. The Lady Chapel has a Thompson screen altar and reredos. There is a fine filigree work timber rood screen. The windows are of high quality. The church is a Gothic revival of Early English style.
