13th century church standing in the Roman Fort (78AD) of Canovium. Ferry dock still visible.

The present church is 13th - 15th century with a south transept added in 1591. The windows are 18th century. The beam across the chapel rests on a re-used 15th century corbel in the form of a woman's head with flying hair. A small ancient stone set into a wall over the entrance has a sculpted figure of Christ.

Between 1970-72, with the help of parishioners and well wishers, considerable restoration took place. A primative stoup for holy water was discovered and is now located just inside the present west door. When the work was completed, the wrought-iron cross seen over the east window, was presented by the family of Col. J. E. Nickson of Cefn, in memory of his 25 years as churchwarden of the parish. This window, though in a slightly later part of the church, may belong to the earlier nave and has been reused. The renovations were completed in 1998.
