New Dean installed at St Asaph Cathedral
The Very Reverend Nigel Howard Williams has started work as Dean of St Asaph Cathedral after a special installation service on Saturday afternoon.
The former Vicar of Colwyn Bay will now take charge of shaping the life and worship of the Mother Church of the Diocese of St Asaph.
After the installation, Nigel was presented with a number of special items to help his ministry including hymn and prayer books, a Bible to represent teaching, oil to represent healing and water to represent baptism.
Nigel led the prayers during Saturday’s service. Commenting on his new challenge he said:
"I am delighted to be taking on the role of Dean. It's a tremendous privilege but with great privilege comes great responsibility.
"What I am looking forward to most is the worship, utilising all the resources available to us to celebrate the Christian faith in our observance of the festivals through the year."
Bishop Gregory then preached, using scripture from 2 Corinthians 4 to highlight Paul speaking of his changed life in Christ and then from Luke 5 to highlight Jesus changing the lives of the first disciples when he called them away from their fishing boats.
During the sermon, Bishop Gregory said:
“Today we are creating a new dean, a new tenth man to take charge of the chapter of canons and of the cathedral, but of one thing I am certain and that is that I am not appointing the curator of a museum.
“Instead, this cathedral is to be a place of encounter, of revelation, of the handing on of the truth of God’s powerful call to conversion in Jesus Christ.”
