5-year-old wins Bishop's Christmas Card competition
A pupil from a Church School in Conwy has won Bishop Gregory’s Christmas card competition.
The winning design has now been turned into the Bishop’s official Christmas card which will be sent around the world.
2011’s winning design was by 5-year-old Gabriel Batters from Ysgol Llanddulas whose card depicts the star above the stable’s manger.
Gabriel was presented with two prizes by the Bishop – a £30 book token as well as 10 of the finished cards to send to family and friends.
Bishop Gregory said:
“I think it’s a joy to do a competition like this because there is so much enthusiasm from the children and we see their own interpretation of the Christmas story.
“There is so much creativity so everyone’s a winner; the schools are able to teach about Christmas, the children are able to exercise their creative skills and the Bishop gets a beautiful Christmas card out of it.”

Second prize went to 9-year-old Rosie Mae Webster, from St Giles’ School in Wrexham and joint third prize went to Ben Davies, 8, from Ysgol Llangedwyn, near Oswestry and Beth Haven, 10, from Ysgol Llanddulas.
There were also certificates awarded for “very highly commended” and “highly commended” entries.
The Bishop revealed where Gabriel’s cards will end up adding:
“Over the years I have made friends with a number of Bishops and Archbishops so there are two Bishops in New Zealand, two in Australia, one in Latin America, a number in North America and Canada and of course our linked Diocese of South West Tanganyika in Tanzania.”
