Thirteen schools from across the Diocese have enjoyed a day out at St Asaph Cathedral celebrating Religious Education.

As part of a month long campaign to promote good teaching of RE in schools, the pupils were able to take part in activities in different areas of the Cathedral showing everyone creative ways of telling Bible stories.

Children from Ysgol y Llan in Whitford performed puppet shows focussing on Jesus’ parable of the Good Samaritan and related that to their relationships with family and friends.

Headteacher Kath Royles said:

“This has been a brilliant day.

“It’s been great for staff too because it has given us some new ideas to go away with.”

Pupils built Lego models to tell parables of Jesus while the story-telling focussed on the Old Testament, in particular Creation and the life of King David.

The Bishop of St Asaph, the Right Reverend Dr Gregory K Cameron officially opened the event on Thursday 24 March which culminated in a huge celebration of RE in the early evening.

Phil Lord is RE Advisor for Denbighshire, Flintshire and Conwy.

He helped organise the day of celebration and said:

“I think it’s gone really well.

“The children got lots out of it and I hope it inspired them to look at the Bible stories in a different way.”
