Wrexham Church School to represent Diocese in London
Children from Year 5 at St Paul’s School in Isycoed have won the chance to represent the Diocese of St Asaph at Westminster Abbey in October.
Bishop Gregory decided their “Nets and Fish” banner presented at the National Society celebration at the Cathedral in June was the best.
They will now reproduce it to take to London for the England and Wales celebration for the 200th anniversary of the organisation which aided the development of Church schools.
The anniversary service at Westminster in the autumn is strictly by invitation only but 8 pupils from St Paul’s will now get to go to the event.
Headteacher at St Paul’s School, Nicola Booth said:
“The hard work starts now; we will reproduce the banner using stronger materials before taking it to Westminster but we designed it with that in mind.
“We’re really pleased to have won and the children are very excited at representing the Diocese in London.”
30 schools took part in the competition and congratulations must also go to St Giles Junior School, Wrexham who came 2nd and Ysgol Dyffryn Ial, Llandegla who finished 3rd.
The anniversary celebration of the National Society at Westminster takes place on 14 October 2011.
