School Flourishes in our Linked DIocese

Ninety children now attend the school in Njombe, South West Tanganyika.

Sister Aneth who came to visit us in St Asaph last summer helps to run it and there are four teachers there too. The picture show some of the children with their teacher.

World Development Officer Ros Crawford said:

"Their plan is to expand each year by adding a new year entry and the enthusiasm for the school is tremendous."

Come dine with uspg

Come Dine with USPG

Come Dine with USPG, is a new fundraising campaign that could be perfect for your Harvest celebrations.

It’s all about food, fun and fellowship, and raising funds for some of the world’s most vulnerable and marginalised people.

You are asked to host a church meal and facilitate private dinner parties, inviting guests to make a donation to the life-changing work that USPG supports through Anglican churches around the world.

Free resources are available to order and download on the USPG website

Ros is keen to hear from any churches experimenting with the materials - get in touch by email

World Mission

The Diocese of St Asaph seeks to take seriously its membership of the world Church and the worldwide Anglican Communion. As a diocese we value and support the work of the main Anglican mission agencies, particularly USPG and CMS, and the other agencies which have formed part of the Welsh Partnership for World Mission.

The World Mission Officer is a resource for any parish, group of churches or church school wanting to explore ways of growing their support for the World Church in mission or making new links. The Officer is keen to help churches reflect on their response to the Five Marks of Mission, both in terms of their own mission work and their support for mission elsewhere.

The Five Marks of Mission are:

To proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom ("Tell")
To Nurture and teach new believers ("Teach")
To respond to human need in loving service ("Tend")
To seek to transform unjust structures of society ("Transform")
To Safeguard creation and sustain and renew the earth ("Treasure")

South West Tanganyika Resource materials for study courses and for special events or acts of worship are available and the World Mission Officer is happy to speak, or to suggest speakers with recent 'World Church' experience, as well as advising on, for example, gap year or short term placement opportunities.

It is our aim as a Diocese that every local church should have some awareness of, involvement in, and way of supporting World Mission.

We shall also launch a Diocesan World Mission Appeal in the autumn of every year, encouraging parishes, groups and deaneries to make World Mission part of their theme as they keep the season of St Andrew's-tide, Advent and through to Epiphany;  and there will be a Diocesan World Mission Service at which that offering is received, in the spring.

Bishop Gregory as a Barista for Christian Aid

In the last 12 months, Bishop Gregory has worked as a Barista to raise awareness of how Christian Aid has helped coffee growers out of poverty in Nicaragua.

In July 2011, the Vicar of Llangollen, Revd Andrew Sully cycled to Paris to raise money for Christian Aid.
