The Diocese of
St. Asaph

Mary Sumner’s prayer:

All this day, O Lord, let me touch as many lives as possible for thee;  and every life I touch, do thou by thy Spirit quicken, whether through the word I speak, the prayer I breathe, or the life I live.

MU Prayer

Loving Lord
we thank you for your love
so freely given to us all.
We pray for families around the world.
Bless the work of the Mothers’ Union
as we seek to share your love
through the encouragement, strengthening and support of marriage and family life.
Empowered by your Spirit,
may we be united in prayer and worship,
and in love and service reach out as your hands across the world.
In Jesus’ name.
Amen.

Action & Outreach Unit

Unit Co-ordinator - June Curry

Our unit has a 3 yearly cycle for projects:

  • Year 1 - Diocesan
  • Year 2 - Away From It All holidays
  • Year 3 -Overseas

We are on Year 1 at the moment working hard for the Women's Aid Centres in the Diocese supplying toiletries and babies' requirements.

2006 was the Overseas year involving fund raising from all branches for the General Overseas Fund plus the knitting of vests for Africa and India; 3800 Vest Tops sent to Kisizzi Hospital. 76 banana boxes were sent out with 50 vests in each.  The boxes needed to be sponsored by £15 a box and all this was raised. Three Ugandan evenings  were held  with appropriate food and a slide show – raising awareness and money for the Overseas Fund.

Members of the Mothers' Union across the Diocese have been busy knitting vests for babies in South-West Uganda. Pictured here are members of Brynford MU and Holywell Deanery President Mrs Anne Thomas (right). Mrs Blanche Jones (centre) knitted 44 of the 80 vests shown here.

2005 was for A.F.I.A. This promotes family holidays for single parent families, grandparents, parents and children in need of a break following illness or hardship.

Child Care Centres are manned when required in 3 or 4 towns in the Diocese.

The Diocese links are with:

  • North Mbale - Mbale -  Bukedi  (Uganda)
  • Newcastle & Riverina   (Australia)

Faith & Policy Unit

Unit Co-ordinator - Margaret Jandrell

This Unit meets four times a year. The Wave of Prayer Service is produced each year. A 3 day retreat is organised with good attendance; not necessarily led by M.U., each year it is led by a different perons, sometimes by the clergy.

The Unit is consulted in the preparation of Diocesan Festival Service along with our Chaplain who attends our meetings.

It also looks after Prayer letters and Prayer Diaries and sends out letters and cards for the members of the Indoor Members Prayer Circle (I.M.P.C.)

2007 Project – Overseeing the selection of suitable books for Hospices   throughout the Diocese - including children’s Hospices.
