Readers Day 2011

Welcome to this web page.

I hope you find your visit helpful and informative and it will give you a flavour of a vocation that God may be stirring in you.

Are you considering becoming a Reader?

Revd Steven Green

The offering of prayer and praise to God, the giver of all good things is the duty and privilege of all the baptized; worship should be in its very nature corporate and evangelistic. In word and action we proclaim to the world what God is like and in that proclamation there is always an invitation that others may "see and believe".

The Church, following the example of its Lord, should be the place where people's gifts can be discerned and nurtured so that the Body of Christ may be strengthened.

Reader Ministry is a distinctive lay ministry which in many ways has its roots in antiquity and offers to the church an active preaching, teaching and pastoral ministry which is both valued and respected.

In a large Diocese like St Asaph with its areas of countryside and scattered communities and in the more urban coastal/border communities, Readers assist in the careful ordering of public worship and public preaching. Without them, a radical rethink of service provision would be on the cards in many parishes.

As your Warden I say "thank you" for all that Readers do Sunday by Sunday and affirm my commitment to you and the ministry that has been given to you.

Selection

Should you, or others, feel that God is calling you to this particular ministry in the Diocese after careful and prayerful consideration you should talk to your Parish Priest who will explore God’s calling with you.

God calls us all uniquely and individually but discernment belongs to the whole Church, so be guided and hopefully encouraged!

The second step will be to get in touch with me, Steven Green, then we can arrange to meet up. A Selection Board meets usually twice a year and this involves you meeting with the Warden, the secretary of the readers board and a representative of St Michael’s College, usually The Revd Manon Parry.

The interview is informal, but we will be looking for certain criteria which include a real sense of calling to Reader Ministry, a mature spirituality, and a commitment to a two year course that is both challenging and rigorist.

The Revd Manon Parry will explain what this commitment involves but will also reassure that academic and personal tutor's will be on hand to help and encourage you all the way.

Should you wish to know more about the course at this point, then ring the Revd Manon Parry on 01492 516728 or by email.

Thank you for reading these few lines. Do not hesitate to contact me if I can help in the discernment of your calling . To be a co worker in the discernment of any God given calling is a great and humbling privilege and I thank God for those who in their own way helped me discern my own.
