The aim of the Diocesan Board of Ministry
The Board of Ministry exists to enhance the ministry and mission of the Diocese of St Asaph in line with its strategic priorities of
- Enabling and Encouraging the Whole People of God
- Enlivening and Enriching our Worship
- Engaging the World
The Board has particular responsibility for the nurture, selection, training and on-going support of all those in accredited forms of ministry. The Board also aims to assist in creating and implementing a vision for a continuing healthy ministry to serve the needs of the diocese and to extend its vision.
Objectives
- Enriching the ministry of the baptised by contributing to theological education through training programmes and by connecting and communicating appropriate resources that are offered and available to and through the diocese.
- Enriching the ministry of parishes, benefices and deaneries by supporting training and work with parish officers and others involved in all types of ministry.
- Enriching the ministry of the ordained by providing resources in Initial and Continuing Ministerial Education (ICME, CME). This is to include information and advice to clergy; financial support, work consultation, diocesan courses, study leave and clergy review.
- Enriching the ministry of the Bishop by providing specialist advice; offering resourcing to the parishes and clergy; working with the Archdeacons and Area Deans and by developing training strategies in direct response to the diocesan strategic priorities.
- Enriching the ministry of the Diocese by liaising and co-operating with the other diocesan boards to develop integrated and coherent plans for training for effective ministry.
The Constitution
The Board of Ministry consists of
- The chair person – nominated by the Board and appointed by the Bishop.
- Representatives of those who have responsibility for planning and deployment, the support and training of ordinands, those in self-supporting ordained ministries, vocational deacons, lay training, Readers, worship leaders and pastoral assistants, the Diocesan Training Course (St Michael’s in St Asaph), St Michael’s College, ICME and CME and Bishop’s Review. All representatives will be nominated by the Board and appointed by the Bishop for a renewable period of five years.
- The Bishop and Archdeacons are ex-officio members of the Board.
- The Board membership will seek to reflect the diversity of ministry in the diocese. When particular experience or expertise is required the Board may co-opt individuals or working parties for particular tasks.
The Board will meet three times a year to plan, review and budget for its work. The Board will produce an annual report which will be presented to the Standing Committee of the Diocesan Conference.
The Board delivers work in the following areas
- Planning and deployment: This work is led by the Archdeacons, who in consultation with the Area Deans advise the Bishop on the planning and deployment of clergy on matters of pastoral re-organisation.
- Ordinands: This work is to undertake to nurture, select and support ordinands.
- Self-supporting / Non-Stipendiary Ministry: This involves offering support and training for those in these ministries. Peter Wykes holds responsibility for this area of work and Archdeacon John has particular responsibility for vocational deacons.
- Readers: This includes the work of nurturing, selecting and supporting Readers.
- Lay ministries and lay training: this involves work to nurture, train and support those in a variety of lay ministries.
- Diocesan Training Course: this work is to undertake the training of Readers and ordinands where appropriate within the diocese.
- Initial Continuing Ministerial Education (ICME): this work is to provide specialised continuing ministerial education for those in their first three years of ordained ministry.
- Continuing Ministerial Education (CME): this involves the provision of ministerial education for clergy and Readers.
- Bishop’s Review: This involves consultancy groups who are charged with helping with the development and implementation of ministerial review, co-ordinated by the Co-ordinator of Ministerial Formation (CMF).
