The St Giles' Centre for Religious Education and Faith Development
The St Giles’ Centre in Wrexham has been developed with the central aim of improving the quality of Religious Education in schools in Wrexham and beyond. It will be formally dedicated by the Archbishop of Wales, Dr Barry Morgan on Saturday 14 January.
In total the project has cost £500,000 and was funded by a £300,000 grant from the Wrexham Parochial Education Foundation with the rest of the scheme paid for from specific bequests.
The Centre
The Centre is a joint undertaking between the St Mary’s Centre for Religion and Education and the Wrexham Parochial Education Foundation in partnership with St Giles’ Church.
The overall aim of the Centre is to enable the Christian Faith to be taught more effectively to children and young people in the Wrexham area and beyond. The Centre will have three distinct yet interrelated areas of work, below is a brief outline but please click on the titles for more information.
In partnership with the Local Authority, the Diocese of St Asaph and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Wrexham, it will promote and support the development of high quality religious education in church and state schools in the Wrexham area and beyond.
In collaboration with the Diocese of St Asaph and local Ecumenical partners, it will help the church to be more effective in its work with young people, providing teaching and developing resource support for Sunday School teachers, youth and children’s workers. It will be a centre for the teaching of ‘Godly Play’.
3. Using St Giles' Church as a witness
It will develop resources to enable the historic building of St Giles to be used to teach young people about the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
