Cathedral Choirs
Choirs for Children
St Asaph Cathedral has two choirs for children - one for girls, another for boys. Each choir currently offers 16 chorister places. A choristership is a very special and unique opportunity. All choristers receive an unrivalled musical, educational and social experience.
Singing is a great team activity and requires dedication and hard work, but is great fun and a way of making new friends. Choristers earn "pocket money" in return for their work and dedication: various social activities are also arranged throughout their time in the choir.
Although previous musical training is valuable, it is not essential, however the choir seeks to encourage those who are committed to a high standard of music making. All training is given by the Cathedral Music Team, this includes weekly tuition with a visiting vocal coach.
The Cathedral Choir Association exists to support the work of the Cathedral Choirs including subsiding the cost of instrumental lessons for our choristers.
BOYS' CHOIR

The Cathedral Boys rehearse twice weekly:
- Monday:
- 4.30pm to 6.00pm
- Choral Evensong: 6.00pm to 6.45pm
- Tuesday:
- 4.30pm to 6.00pm
Boy trebles are admitted to the choir from age 7 and continue until their voices break.
GIRLS' CHOIR

The Cathedral Girls Choir was established in 2003 - at present all 16 chorister places are filled. The girls (age 10 to 16) come from far and wide, not just the St Asaph area. They have performed in concerts, visited parishes throughout the St Asaph Diocese and sing services regularly in the Cathedral. In a short time, they have made a valuable contribution to the life of the Cathedral.
Rehearsals:
- Wednesday:
- 4.30pm to 6.00pm
- Friday:
- 4.30pm to 6.00pm
- Choral Evensong: 6.00pm to 6.45pm
We are always pleased to hear from parents of any prospective child (boy or girl) interested in joining one of our Cathedral Choirs. Audition is through an informal voice trial with the Organist and Master of the Choristers.
Cathedral Layclerks
The Cathedral Layclerks provide alto, tenor and bass parts for both boys/girls choirs. They rehearse weekly.
All the choirs have varying Sunday commitments.
Gentlemen wishing to join one of our choirs or wishing to receive further details should contact the Organist and Master of the Choristers.
