Bullying and Harassment - introduction

Cases of bullying and harassment in schools, hospitals and work places are frequently reported through the press and media. We have all been appalled at the treatment some people have been subjected to and the effect this has had on their lives, with loss of self-esteem, sickness and in extreme case with individuals taking their own lives.

We all need to be mindful of the way in which we treat and respect others and recognise that sometimes our actions or words cause offence and may be perceived by others as bullying or harassment.

The Church in Wales is not immune to cases of bullying and harassment and the Bench of Bishops has been concerned for sometime that there has been no provision for handling allegations of bullying and harassment. The Bench of Bishops in adopting a policy and a clergy complaints procedure expects all clergy to be committed to providing an environment which is free from bullying and harassment, abuse or intimidation.

The policy and the complaints procedure can be downloaded by clicking on this link (MS Word format, 40k - please contact the webmaster if you require a different format). Further information on the application of the policy or complaints procedure can be obtained from your Archdeacon.
