Llandaff Diocese Day Retreat House
in the Vale of Glamorgan
An opportunity to find peace and solitude in the midst of a busy Christian life
Ty Teilo retreat house is in the grounds of the working rectory at Llandow and in the heart of the rural Vale of Glamorgan. Converted from the stable block of the Georgian rectory, Ty Teilo offers a place to meet that is secluded from the demands of daily living.
Groups are welcome to come and spend a day, or an evening, in a space set aside for their sole use. Ty Teilo is close to Cardiff and Bridgend and with good access to the greater part of the Diocese. There is no residential accommodation. A fee is charged for the use of Ty Teilo. The building is under the care of the Warden and an Assistant.
FACILITIES
Ty Teilo offers facilities for groups of up to 25 people to meet together. On the ground floor is the chapel of St Teilo, a place of quiet simplicity. The Holy Eucharist may be celebrated here or other acts of worship can take place in the flexible worship space.
On the upper floor is a meeting room with simple catering facilities in an adjacent kitchenette. There is toilet accommodation on both floors. The needs of the disabled have been taken into account in the conversion of the building with appropriate toilet facilities on the ground floor. The stair to the upper room is wide with strong handrails on either side. Groups have the use of the building and gardens during their visit and there are walks in the vicinity with the opportunity of visiting the little village churches served by the rectory.
POSSIBLE USES
Parish groups, PCC, Mothers Union branches, Alpha courses, deanery clergy chapters and others may all find Ty Teilo to be a place that offers space that meets their needs. Groups coming for a day like to begin their programme at about 10.00am and finish at around 4.30pm. A packed lunch is preferred by many but catering can be provided to an agreed budget. Alternatively, there are pleasant pubs in nearby villages that offer a good lunchtime choice. Tea, coffee and simple refreshments are provided. Groups are encouraged to foster leadership gifts from within their own resources although alternative arrangements may be possible.
